Mission Statement:

The mission of the Student Counseling Services at Texas State Technical College supports the mission of the College and the Student Development Division.  The Department takes a proactive and fluid approach to bolstering the wellness of TSTC students. Additionally, it is committed to helping our students find an optimal and safe environment to grow, develop, and reach their full potential while striving to obtain their educational and life goals.

Counseling Services:

Services are available for all currently enrolled students at all TSTC campus locations. Counseling assists students in obtaining the maximum results from their educational opportunities.  Services are provided by an experienced counseling staff.  Walk-ins are welcome but having a session with a counselor is dependent upon availability and if the counselor is traveling to a different TSTC campus that day.  If another student has an appointment, they will take precedence over any walk-ins except in crisis  situations.

Counselors promote positive mental health for improved personal, career, and academic growth.  In counseling, you receive assistance from a caring professional who is not directly impacted by how you live your life or the choices you make.  Regardless of what you share and what you do, our counselors are on your side.

These services could include:

  • Individual and Group Counseling.
  • Scholastic and Financial Counseling.
  • Workshops.
  • Mediation.
  • Referral to outside agencies.

Potential topics include but are not limited to:

    • Stress and anxiety.
    • Depression and sadness.
    • Anger management.
    • Self-harming behavior.
    • Loneliness or isolation.
    • Relationship issues.
    • Grief and loss.
    • Test anxiety.
    • Sexual assault.
    • Family concerns.
    • Sexual identity.
    • Conflict resolution.
    • Adjusting to college life.

How do I Arrange to see a Counselor?

      1. Call or email the counselor listed at your location
      2. At the time of your appointment, complete the intake form and meet with your counselor
      3. At the time of your Initial Assessment, you and the counselor will explore your concerns, clarify your goals, and create a plan for counseling services

      Is My Counseling Confidential?

Yes, information disclosed during counseling sessions is strictly confidential and is protected by state and federal laws.  Information will not be disclosed without your written permission except when it involves potential danger to oneself or others, child abuse, elder abuse, or in the event that a client's records are court-ordered by a judge.
